Sherryl-Lee grew up with a producer’s mindset, developing and directing performances in her school and local community when she was 9 years old. At 15, she began studying voice and performing musical theatre  in her local community theatre company and, for the next 30 years, she enjoyed numerous performance opportunities that would allow her to perform on concert halls and theatre stages in her home city of Brisbane.

Marrying Geoffrey, a professional orchestral musician, the two built a business together that would see Geoff become one of the country's leading woodwind specialists. Together they founded the Inspire! Project in 2009, connecting young instrumental music students and large community orchestras, inspiring these students to continue their studies throughout their education. The Project continues today under the management of the Queensland Wind Orchestra.

In 2010, Sherryl-Lee joined the management team of one of Queensland’s largest community musical theatre companies, developing her understanding of the complexities of managing and leading an arts organisation. She also used her professional branding skills to develop the organisation’s brand and digital presence, raising their profile and contributing to their significant financial success over the next 8 years. She was sought out as a brand consultant by theatre companies and independent artists in Australia and overseas, to develop their brands and provide marketing advice specific to the arts.

In 2014, after a challenging directorial experience with a regional arts organisation, Sherryl-Lee discovered a disconnect between what passionate theatre leaders wanted and what they were able to achieve with very limited resources. She began writing her blog, ‘An Idiot On Stage’, as a way of encouraging community and independent theatre leaders and challenging ‘what had always been done’.

Sher began developing her directing portfolio in 2010 with musical theatre productions such as The Phantom of the Opera (Australia Day Award Recipient 2014), Mamma Mia, Chicago, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and the Queensland Premieres of Nice Work If You Can Get It and It Shoulda Been You. In recent years, she has focussed on more intimate productions including the Matilda nominated, “Fun Home” musical, produced by PIP Theatre in 2024.

In 2024, Sherryl-Lee accepted the opportunity to lead Honour Productions as Artistic Director. Honour is an innovative independent performing arts organisation in Brisbane founded by Tina Atiga, developing emerging artists with a ‘person first artist second’ philosophy. This role utilises all Sher's skills to provide support to and development of emerging performing artists and theatre producers.
